Myofunctional Therapy is exercise based therapy that uses a combination of many different exercises to improve breathing, swallowing, tongue and airway development. People of all ages can experience oral dysfunction. Habits can be hard to break. Treatment is customized based on age and individual symptoms.
My mission is to help promote proper nasal breathing, tongue and airway function, chewing, swallowing and other myofunctional concerns in children and adults. When you have correct tongue function and airway development your whole body will benefit.
People of all ages can experience orofacial dysfunction. Habits can be hard to break. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy can be instrumental in helping a developing tongue and airway. A consultation can be very valuable. General health, speech, orthodontic, dental health, swallowing and breathing issues may persist for many years. Therapy can help you make necessary changes that will benefit you throughout life.
The goal of myofunctional therapy is to raise awareness and strengthen the facial muscles to meet these goals:
1) Getting the tongue to rest in the proper position
2) Keeping the lips closed when you are not talking or eating,
3) Healthy chewing
4) And proper swallowing patterns.
When we reach these goals, troublesome symptoms may be relieved. Issues such as TMJ muscle pain, sleep apnea, colds, respiratory issues and digestion are more easily managed.
You or your child could exhibit one or more of these myofascial symptoms. Typically, you will need to treat the cause of the symptoms, by seeking myofunctional therapy.
